Claude

Made by Anthropic

Claude is Anthropic’s AI assistant for handing off real tasks, and it’s also where you can build your own agents from scratch.

I started with Claude, then added OpenAI’s models, and then moved into Grok Bot.

What it is

Claude is a family of AI models made by Anthropic, and the app you use them in: on the web, on desktop or on your phone. Anthropic’s pitch is “hand Claude a task, not just a question.” You say what you need in plain words, and Claude works out the steps and hands back the file.

The same Claude also shows up as Claude Code for building software and Claude in Chrome in your browser. Anthropic says “Claude Cowork and chat are becoming one Claude.”

What it’s very good at

These are Anthropic’s own claims, not our test results:

  • Finished work you can check. Claude can make documents, spreadsheets and slides that you review, edit and sign off on. In Word and Excel, its changes show as tracked edits or highlighted cells.
  • Work that keeps going. On the Pro and Max plans (in beta for Team), Cowork runs in the cloud: close your laptop and Claude keeps going, and scheduled tasks run with no device online.
  • Building your own agent. Claude Code channels, a research preview, let you message a Claude Code session from Telegram, Discord or iMessage. Messages only arrive while that session is open, so for an always-on bot you keep it running yourself.
  • Working with a team. Claude Tag lets a team tag Claude in Slack. It’s in beta for Team and Enterprise plans, not individual plans.
  • Staying in control. You can have Claude show its plan and wait for your OK, and it works only in the folders and tools you allow.

How I use it

In my experience, Claude is where I reach for professional work. It can span all three tracks: personal, business and professional. One honest gap: as of October 2026, we didn’t find a built-in always-on personal agent in Claude like ChatGPT’s dots. The closest are Cowork’s cloud and scheduled tasks, which keep going when your laptop is closed, and some people build their own agents, such as a Telegram bot on Claude Code. That’s my habit, not a rule; ChatGPT and Grok Bot also handle work tasks.

Evidence (checked 2026-10-15)

  • Vendor claim, Claude Help Center (updated Oct 14, 2026): on Pro and Max, Cowork tasks run in the cloud and keep going after you close your laptop.
  • Vendor claim, Claude Code docs (page undated): channels are a research preview, with Telegram, Discord and iMessage included. Events only arrive while the session is open.
  • Vendor claim, Anthropic (Jun 23, 2026): Claude Tag launched in Slack, in beta for Team and Enterprise customers.
  • Vendor claim, OpenAI help article (updated Oct 15, 2026): ChatGPT’s dot is an always-on agent.
  • Our check (Oct 15, 2026): Anthropic’s product pages list Cowork cloud and scheduled tasks, Claude Code channels and Claude Tag, but we didn’t find an always-on personal agent like dots.
